NZ's LARGEST CAR PARTS SUPPLIERNZ’s largest car parts supplier commissioned Storepro for their storage requirements to house and access tens of thousands of car parts in their new centralized distribution center. With the intention to amalgamate all car parts, offices, car dismantling area, and showroom/public sales area there was a BIG Challenge ahead!
With this in mind and the nature of the 10m high stud warehouse, a 3 tiered Mezzanine Floor was used with each tier being 1000sq meters. Heavy duty steel floor grating was used in all walkways throughout each level giving maximum light penetration from the clear corrugated roofing panel sections. Saving on power was a key factor the flooring design in each level meaning no artificial powered lighting was used through the high density Raised Storage Area.
Space utilization was the main objective within the building and the given project. With an overall 2000sq meter building – the RSA incorporates half of the building, the remaining space taken up by existing offices and car dismantling area meant housing the main office, picking and packing area and customer counter was fully incorporated into the racking system and is fully air-conditioned and sound insulated to allow minimal noise disturbances from the levels above.
Loading parts from the car to its storage location within the raised storage levels is easy. A fully automated elevator system with man up compatible cage is situated beside the racking and parts are loaded into the cage and raised to the designated level.
Safety mesh panels have been placed throughout each floor level for prevention of falling objects if dislodgment of parts occurs.
Specially designed shelves have been used to allow for the unorthodox nature of their parts. From car bonnets/bumpers to windscreens/headlights to small mechanical pieces mean that each location has a different storage requirement. From a standard wooden shelf to dividers to hanging rail – each part is easily accessible and clear to see. Due to the hard work put in to design the way to store this wide variety of parts means a more efficient pick/pack operation and therefore less down time and improved lead times for orders and customer door sale.
