  • The story

    Storer had undertaken a state of the art shuttle racking project for a well-established fruit grower and packing co-operative based in the Hawkes Bay. Marc Padman the Sales Manager says “we were given the opportunity to look at designing and commissioning a racking system that would best suit the clients requirements and provide the most efficient system in order to maximise their return on investment. In order to do so we explored a number of options with the goal of gaining as much capacity in terms of storage density without compromising on the operational efficiencies”.

    It was obvious that the shuttle racking system would be the best fit for this particular application and the benefits it offered the client far outweighed the other systems that were considered.

  • Although the system is capable of taking up to 60 pallets deep in a particular block this system gave the greatest utilisation of space while still allowing stock to be rotated in a relatively timely fashion.

    Labour savings are greatly reduced as the driver only ever accesses the very first front pallet on each location as the battery powered satellite unit automatically retrieves and puts away the pallets into their specified location. This labour saving means that the forklift driver can load and unload pallets at the same time as the shuttle is also putting away and retrieving pallets into the racking system. Damage to the racking system is very minimal as the forklift does not have a lot of interaction with the racking as opposed to other systems like drive-in and double deep.
